Chicago potter inspired by mid-century forms and Chicago's architectural history.

Anne E. Terpstra is a Chicago potter who throws functional and decorative work for the home and garden. She’s always been drawn to mid-century modern design, and this is reflected in the clean lines of many of her forms. She also loves the contrast of glaze against clay body and explores this through a variety of taped lines that let the fired clay play against the surrounding glaze. Many of her designs are inspired by stained glass from Chicago’s own Prairie style, along with art deco and mid-century patterns.

These wheelthrown ceramic mugs are sturdy yet lightweight, decorated with playful connected circles and ovals. The interiors and handle are glazed a glossy white, and the pattern comes in either a satin mint green or slate blue. The buff stoneware is visible through the taped lines, giving the mugs a subtle textural note.
