Chicago potter inspired by mid-century forms and Chicago's architectural history.

Anne E. Terpstra is a Chicago potter who throws functional and decorative work for the home and garden. She’s always been drawn to mid-century modern design, and this is reflected in the clean lines of many of her forms. She also loves the contrast of glaze against clay body and explores this through a variety of taped lines that let the fired clay play against the surrounding glaze. Many of her designs are inspired by stained glass from Chicago’s own Prairie style, along with art deco and mid-century patterns.

This wheelthrown Chicago mug was inspired by the city’s flag, which features four red stars on a background of white and teal. The red clay body used for the mug serves as a vintage red nod to the stars, and the shape was inspired by pipe fittings and girders, reflecting the industrial roots of Chicago. The mug holds approximately 12 fluids ounces.
