Chicago potter inspired by mid-century forms and Chicago's architectural history.

Anne E. Terpstra is a Chicago potter who throws functional and decorative work for the home and garden. She’s always been drawn to mid-century modern design, and this is reflected in the clean lines of many of her forms. She also loves the contrast of glaze against clay body and explores this through a variety of taped lines that let the fired clay play against the surrounding glaze. Many of her designs are inspired by stained glass from Chicago’s own Prairie style, along with art deco and mid-century patterns.

This angular serving bowl evokes the both the form and the playful graphics of midcentury modern design. Wheelthrown in buff clay, the lines and ovals are then taped out before the glazes are applied in the classic combination of walnut and white. The tape is then removed, leaving the warm golden clay body in outline.
