Chicago potter inspired by mid-century forms and Chicago's architectural history.

Anne E. Terpstra is a Chicago potter who throws functional and decorative work for the home and garden. She’s always been drawn to mid-century modern design, and this is reflected in the clean lines of many of her forms. She also loves the contrast of glaze against clay body and explores this through a variety of taped lines that let the fired clay play against the surrounding glaze. Many of her designs are inspired by stained glass from Chicago’s own Prairie style, along with art deco and mid-century patterns.

The dramatic cascade effect on this porcelain vase comes from the magic of the kiln. The flowing white glaze at the top interacts with the copper black glaze at the bottom, creating a gorgeous flowing middle that shifts from shimmering purples and greens to an intense blue. The cinched waist gives a slight horizon effect to the piece. Tall and narrow, this vase is perfect for any credenza or shelf that needs an eye-catching element.
