Chicago potter inspired by mid-century forms and Chicago's architectural history.

Anne E. Terpstra is a Chicago potter who throws functional and decorative work for the home and garden. She’s always been drawn to mid-century modern design, and this is reflected in the clean lines of many of her forms. She also loves the contrast of glaze against clay body and explores this through a variety of taped lines that let the fired clay play against the surrounding glaze. Many of her designs are inspired by stained glass from Chicago’s own Prairie style, along with art deco and mid-century patterns.

A warm sienna glaze traces an angular lined pattern around this dark brown stoneware vase, bringing a touch of midcentury modern to the piece. There is both tactile and visual texture to the surface due the exposed clay body. Bold and linear, this wheelthrown vase would bring a pop of design and color to any credenza or dining room table.
