Chicago potter inspired by mid-century forms and Chicago's architectural history.

Anne E. Terpstra is a Chicago potter who throws functional and decorative work for the home and garden. She’s always been drawn to mid-century modern design, and this is reflected in the clean lines of many of her forms. She also loves the contrast of glaze against clay body and explores this through a variety of taped lines that let the fired clay play against the surrounding glaze. Many of her designs are inspired by stained glass from Chicago’s own Prairie style, along with art deco and mid-century patterns.

Ceramic Birdhouse

Ceramic Birdhouse

$43.00

This birdhouse is a modern interpretation of Colonial-era Williamsburg bird bottles, which were commonly mounted under eaves near windows, hoping the nesting birds would eat the insect population. This bottle has a cleanout on the back and can be hung on any flat surface on a single screw.

  • It is not recommended to hang this birdhouse where it will receive direct sun all afternoon, as ceramic retains heat, making the house too warm for nesting.

  • In climates where winter temperatures regularly fall below freezing, it’s recommended to store all ceramics indoors to prevent cracking from accumulated ice.
