Chicago potter inspired by mid-century forms and Chicago's architectural history.

Anne E. Terpstra is a Chicago potter who throws functional and decorative work for the home and garden. She’s always been drawn to mid-century modern design, and this is reflected in the clean lines of many of her forms. She also loves the contrast of glaze against clay body and explores this through a variety of taped lines that let the fired clay play against the surrounding glaze. Many of her designs are inspired by stained glass from Chicago’s own Prairie style, along with art deco and mid-century patterns.

These porcelain vases were thrown as clean, simple forms to allow the glaze technique to really shine. The color combinations on each were sprayed and carefully layered to allow a soft blending. Where the two glazes meet, they create a third, entirely organic, glaze interaction that is unique to this spraying process.
