Chicago potter inspired by mid-century forms and Chicago's architectural history.

Anne E. Terpstra is a Chicago potter who throws functional and decorative work for the home and garden. She’s always been drawn to mid-century modern design, and this is reflected in the clean lines of many of her forms. She also loves the contrast of glaze against clay body and explores this through a variety of taped lines that let the fired clay play against the surrounding glaze. Many of her designs are inspired by stained glass from Chicago’s own Prairie style, along with art deco and mid-century patterns.

These dark stoneware tea bowls are a tribute to the maker’s beloved Chicago. Thrown on the wheel using a custom rib in the shape of the city’s lakefront eastern edge, each bowl has Chicago built into its very body. They are finished with a glaze in the sky blue of the Chicago flag.
