Chicago potter inspired by mid-century forms and Chicago's architectural history.

Anne E. Terpstra is a Chicago potter who throws functional and decorative work for the home and garden. She’s always been drawn to mid-century modern design, and this is reflected in the clean lines of many of her forms. She also loves the contrast of glaze against clay body and explores this through a variety of taped lines that let the fired clay play against the surrounding glaze. Many of her designs are inspired by stained glass from Chicago’s own Prairie style, along with art deco and mid-century patterns.

Winter Birch Tea Bowl

Winter Birch Tea Bowl

$42.00

These dark stoneware tea bowls are thrown on the wheel before being trimmed to create a narrow foot for the slightly fluted shape. The blue and cream glaze, streaked with brown, is reminiscent of birch trees reflected in a winter river. Each bowl has a unique set of drips and rivulets where the glaze interacted with the heat of the kiln and the soft curve of the bowl’s belly.
