Chicago potter inspired by mid-century forms and Chicago's architectural history.

Anne E. Terpstra is a Chicago potter who throws functional and decorative work for the home and garden. She’s always been drawn to mid-century modern design, and this is reflected in the clean lines of many of her forms. She also loves the contrast of glaze against clay body and explores this through a variety of taped lines that let the fired clay play against the surrounding glaze. Many of her designs are inspired by stained glass from Chicago’s own Prairie style, along with art deco and mid-century patterns.

This tall and narrow style of porcelain mug is perfect for keeping your coffee or tea hot longer, and its playful confetti exterior will add charm to any kitchen. The speckled pattern is created using recycled glaze chips, which are applied to the still-damp final coat of glossy white glaze. This application technique makes each mug unique, which keeping the set cohesive because the family of glazes used remain consistent.
