Chicago potter inspired by mid-century forms and Chicago's architectural history.

Anne E. Terpstra is a Chicago potter who throws functional and decorative work for the home and garden. She’s always been drawn to mid-century modern design, and this is reflected in the clean lines of many of her forms. She also loves the contrast of glaze against clay body and explores this through a variety of taped lines that let the fired clay play against the surrounding glaze. Many of her designs are inspired by stained glass from Chicago’s own Prairie style, along with art deco and mid-century patterns.

Sunflower Ceramic Wreath - Midcentury Pop

Sunflower Ceramic Wreath - Midcentury Pop

$120.00

This lightweight ceramic wreath adds a touch of summer to any door, wall, or exterior patio. The piece was initially thrown face-down on the wheel in a concave shape so that when inverted and trimmed, the final form would be convex, mimicking the curve of a wreath. The pattern was taped line by line prior to glazing and then carefully peeled away before firing. The multiple glazes were applied individually, section by section, to achieve the final sunflower design. The wreath can be hung outdoors as well as inside.
